Kathy has been working in the field of Vocational Rehabilitation since 1994 and holds her certification as a Registered Rehabilitation Professional (RRP) (1997), Commission on Rehabilitation Counsellor Certification (CCRC)(2000) and her Certified Vocational Rehabilitation Professional (CVRP) (2012) and has been a member of VRA since 1997. She holds an Honours Bachelor of Social Work from the Lakehead University (1994)and is certified as an interpreter in American Sign Language (ASL) (1990).
She was previously the President of the Saskatchewan Society and later the Prairie Society. She is currently a member of the VRA Ontario Society and is a board member of the College of Vocational Rehabilitation Professionals. As a VRA member she has also served on numerous committees throughout her 26 years as an active VRA member.
Kathy has worked in both the private and public sector. She has worked as a Disability Case Manager working with insurance companies, a Disability Income Plan Coordinator, managing a long term disability plan for government workers, and as a Return to Work Case Manager for an employer managing claims for workers of work due injury or illness. Kathy has supported individuals with acquired brain injuries, mental health challenges, physical disabilities and chronic health conditions; as well as, most recently, adjudication of short term disability claims for various employers.
Kathy is passionate about helping people manage through a disability and return to their pre disability level or returning to suitable alternate employment. She helps individuals navigate the claims process and understand their role and responsibilities when in receipt of various income replacement benefits.
Her professional interests include WCB claims, long term disability claims, human rights, safety/prevention, wellness and self care. She believes in helping people independently manage their own health and live their best life regardless of their circumstances. Her hobbies include hiking, travel, self care, listening to podcasts and spending time with her family.
